Redleaf Group is pleased to announce that Dr Darren Fielder has been appointed as a member of the Queensland Freshwater Fisheries Working Group for a two-year term.

Convened by Fisheries Queensland within the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, the Working Group provides operational and strategic advice on the management of Queensland’s freshwater fisheries. Its work considers emerging issues, research priorities, fisheries legislation, recreational fishing, aquaculture, commercial fisheries, fish stocking, conservation and the management of threatened species and aquatic habitats.

Dr Fielder’s appointment reflects his extensive experience in freshwater ecology, fisheries management, aquatic fauna, fish passage, river health and threatened species conservation. As a consultant member, he will contribute scientific and practical knowledge while exchanging perspectives with representatives from government, research, recreational fishing, aquaculture, conservation, natural resource management, water management and other sectors.

The voluntary role involves contributing to discussions about the opportunities and challenges facing Queensland’s freshwater fisheries, including habitat degradation, waterway barriers, introduced species, water regulation, water quality and climate-related pressures.

Dr Fielder said the appointment provides an important opportunity to contribute to the sustainable management of Queensland’s freshwater fisheries and to help connect scientific knowledge with practical management decisions.

His participation also demonstrates the depth of specialist knowledge within Redleaf Group and our ongoing commitment to achieving better outcomes for Queensland’s freshwater ecosystems, threatened species and the communities and industries that depend upon them.
